Day Use
Day use is the sale of a hotel room for daytime hours only. The guest checks in and out on the same day without staying overnight, and the room can still be sold for that night. Hotels use it to earn revenue from hours a room would otherwise sit idle.
Day-use guests are travellers between flights, remote workers, spa visitors, and couples who want a few private hours. The rate is usually a fraction of the overnight rate, and the room can turn twice in one day if housekeeping can service it in time.
The bookings sit slightly awkwardly in hotel reporting. A day-use room is occupied without adding to the overnight house count, so the property management system tracks it separately, and rate metrics calculated on rooms sold can behave oddly depending on how the property codes it. For the restaurant, a day-use guest is a lunch or a bar cover who never appears on the arrivals list.
